HKU has won the TOP
PRIZE of the Most Supportive Group Award and 1st Place of Master 1, Half
Marathon (Women) of Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on February
17, 2008!
United We Run! And, United We've MADE IT again!
We proudly announce that the HKU Marathon Team has won the TOP ONE
PRIZE of the Most Supportive Group Award of the Standard Chartered Hong
Kong Marathon 2008! This is the third consecutive year that the Team has
been the LARGEST in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon.

A total of 2,103 alumni, students, staff, and their families joined
the HKU banner this year, representing an increase of 15% from the
number of 1,812 last year. Among the 10Km races we had the
Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, Professor Paul Cheung, Chair of
the Organising Committee, and Dr Albert Chau, Dean of Student Affairs.
This year, over 75% of the Team are HKU alumni and their families,
ranging from 9 years old to 70 years old.

Congratulations to HKU runner Rachel SPROSTON, our graduate of the
programme Postgraduate Diploma in Education, who has won the FIRST place
in Master 1 category of Half Marathon (Women) and the THIRD place in
Half Marathon (Women).

A big THANK YOU must be extended to our Support Team comprising
students, alumni and staff members. We would also like to thank many
alumni and friends who have given us their assistance and encouragement.

Countdown to the Marathon!
Before the Race Day:
- Practice but do not overdo.
- Have enough rest.
- Eat lot of carbohydrates (i.e. rice, bread, banana).
- Read the Runners' Guide of the Standard Charted HK Marathon*.
- Read the Special Notes for HKU Marathon Team Members 2008
(please download the Notes below).
On the Race Day:
- Wear HKU Marathon Team T-shirt/Singlet to show the HKU spirit!
- Remember to bring your Race Number Cloth (pin it on your
T-shirt/Singlet), Timing Chip, Baggage Tag and Baggage Bag*!
- Do at least a 20-minute's WARM UP exercise!
- All 10km runners need to walk from Hing Fat Street (enter Hing
Fat Street beside the Tin Hau MTR station) to the Starting Point on
the Island Eastern Corridor (located outside the City Garden).
Please deposit your baggage at least 30 minutes before your start
time, and reserve enough time for warm up exercise and walk up to
the Starting Point.
- After your run, meet your friends and other team mates, cheer
other HKU runners, and take photos with the Most Supportive Group
Award trophy at the HKU Gathering Point at Moreton Terrace Temporary
Playground摩頓臺臨時遊樂場 (behind the HK Central Library)!
* These items are in the Runner's Kit provided by the organiser of
Standard Chartered HK Marathon. Please remember to collect your kit at
the Standard Chartered Marathon Expo at Victoria Park before the Race
Day.
Support Team
Recruitment of Support Team 2008
This year, over 2,000 alumni, students, staff and friends of the
University will run with the Vice-Chancellor Lap-Chee Tsui and
Pro-Vice-Chancellor C F Lee at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon
on February 17, 2008!
We need a very strong Support Team to lead the cheering and the
logistics on the Marathon Day.
HKU alumni, staff and students, please join us!
Runners are also welcome to invite your family members and friends to
join the Support Team and share the joy and pride of being part of the
HKU Marathon Team!
As a token of our appreciation, each Support Team member will be
entitled to:
- a free vest specially designed and sponsored by PUMA
- a certificate in recognition of your contribution

RUN at the annual Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon on Sunday,
February 17, 2008 and be a PART of the HKU Team!
The HKU Team was the largest Marathon Team in both 2006 and 2007. This
year, we are aiming to break last year’s record of 1,810 runners and
again be the largest team at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon
2008.
Whether you are a seasoned runner or a complete beginner, this will be a
great opportunity for you to experience the challenges and pleasures of
running! Share the experiences of sports-phobics-turned-sports-loving
alumni whose lives have been transformed by running—improved health,
increased strength, a fit body and mind … and, more importantly, a
happier and healthier life!
What do we want to achieve?

registration.

and training, and participate in our Marathon Forum (open to members
only)

This year, for the first time, awards will be presented to the best
performing HKU team runners.
